Marvel Movies Get New Release Dates

Marvel Studios just announced some new release dates for their movies. Probably since they seem to be running behind schedule. But here are the new dates:

Iron Man 2: Unchanged with May 7, 2010

Captain America: Moved from May 6, 2011 to July 22, 2011

Thor: Moved from July 16, 2010 to June 17, 2011

The Avengers: Moved from July 15, 2011 to May 4, 2012

They are also planning on releasing Spider-Man 4 on May 6, 2011. Many many movies for 2011.

Robert Downey Jr. Talks About The Avengers

MTV was able to talk with Robert Downey Jr. about his thoughts on the The Avengers movie. This is what he said:

“If we don’t get it right it’s really, really going to suck. It has to be the crowning blow of Marvel’s best and brightest because it’s the hardest thing to get right. It’s tough to spin all the plates for one of these characters.”

“I think its important that I do what I’m supposed to do which is keep my side of the street clean. "The danger you run with colliding all these worlds is [director] Jon [Favreau] was very certain that Iron Man should be set in a very realistic world. Nothing that happened in Iron Man is really outside the realm of possibility. Once you start talking about Valhalla and supersized super soldiers and jolly green giants it warrants much further discussion.”

He's right. Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk has been portrayed as stories that could happen in our world. But when you add flying thunder gods (Thor) and giant humans (Ant Man), things start turning into fantasy, which might not go well for the general audience.

The Avengers plans to be released in theaters on July 15, 2011.

It's Official: Downey Jr. and Cheadle are Signed On

Marvel Studios Entertainment has announced that Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle have been signed on for both Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. Director Jon Favreau has also been chosen to executive produce The Avengers. Cheadle will be replacing Terrence Howard as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes.

Iron Man 2 is planning for a May 7th 2010 release while The Avengers is planning for July 15th 2011.

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes Cartoon

Marvel has announced that they are working on a new animated series called, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It'll be 26 episodes long and is expected to broadcast in 2011.

"The addition of 'The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' to our quickly expanding animation slate continues our plan to complement each of our tentpole live action features with an animated series," said Eric Rollman, President of Animation. "This new ensemble series tracks perfectly with our highly anticipated 'road to the Avengers' strategy which includes some of Marvel's biggest and most beloved characters, and which kicks off with two Avengers' themed feature films in summer 2011."

Marvel is also working on 4 other animated cartoons called Wolverine and the X-Men , Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Marvel Super Hero Squad, and The Black Panther. All to debut next year.

Edward Norton Has No Idea

Edward Norton says Marvel Studios isn’t giving him any indication that they want him to reprise his role as the Incredible Hulk either in a Hulk Sequel or in the Avengers movie.

If Marvel is going to replace Norton with another actor for the Avengers movie, I'm going to be very disappointed because they are probably just being cheap.

Eva Longoria In the Avengers Movie

Here is a picture of Eva Longoria leaving the offices of Marvel Comics on September 12th. She has a stack of comic books in her hand including an Avengers comic book on the top of the stack. People are speculating that she may be in for the role of Wasp. Or maybe Black Widow. Check out some more pics here.

Schwarzenegger and Marvel Movie Deal

No, Arnold isn't going to be in the next Marvel movie. You can breathe. Actually Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios are supporting California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to give Hollywood studios tax breaks for making their movies within the state. This would mean that instead of putting millions of movie making dollars into the pockets of foreign governments, all of it will go to California. Favreau says that Marvel is willing to film Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers all in Hollywood. That's would be about $600 million spent in California.

That's nice an all but I really don't want to see palm trees, and Rodeo Drive in every Marvel movie. It loses it's epic feel. How is Thor supposed to be a god if he's surrounded my surfer babes and beach volleyball? What made the Incredible Hulk so cool is that it was filmed in multiple locations around the world. I hope Marvel knows what it's doing.

Iron Man 2 Cameo

Louis Leterrier, the director of The Incredible Hulk, says that a new Avenger will have a cameo in Iron Man 2. We don't know if it's Thor or Captain America, my money's on Thor, but for sure the Hulk won't be appearing in it according to Robert Downey Jr. in a recent interview. Additionally, Leterrier has revealed that Downey Jr., Ed Norton, Sam Jackson, and two other A-list actors (Thor and Capt.) will come together for the Avengers movie.

It's nice to know that no actors has backed out, and that the Avenger wheels are moving.

The Avengers Villain: The Incredible Hulk?

So over at the MTV Movie Blog, Louis Leterrier, director of The Incredible Hulk, has suggested the possibility of having the Hulk as the main antagonist in the 2011's The Avengers. It is said that in the comics, the whole reason the Avengers got together in the first place was because of the Hulk going bananas so it would fit. Leterrier said he made the last shot of Edward Norton smiling in The Incredible Hulk to be ambiguous. Is he smiling because he's in control or has he lost and and has turned evil. Well, according to Leterrier, the decision is up to us fans.

“I would listen to the fans before I listen to the box office. They are the reason why these movies successful.”

Personally, I find that it would be awesome to have the Hulk tearing apart other heroes in a huge battle but I don't think it would fit. The Hulk calms down so easily when he sees Betty Ross, and casual fans don't want to see the gentle green giant turn evil. I guess it may work if the Hulk was brainwashed to be evil by an even larger villain. Loki for example.

ABC News Talks About the Avengers

On tonight's ABC WorldNews, they small segment on Marvel's superhero movies this summer and its plan for an Avengers movie in 2011. Nothing was mentioned that we didn't already know, but they did talk about Stan Lee and in the video, for a few seconds, it shows a alternate cameo of Stan Lee in The Incredible Hulk that was not shown in the theatrical version. A Doctor Strange Movie?

So director Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy) said that he's working with the idea of making a Doctor Strange movie. He likes how the hero is all magical and stuff and he's working with screenwriter Neil Gaiman (Beowulf). Who knows when this movie will start production or if it ever will. My guess is that Marvel Studios will release The Avengers, and then have a series of more solo movies to introduce new characters such as Doctor Strange, and then have them all added into The Avengers 2. That would be insane. I wonder if people will get bored with all these superhero movies...Nah never!

Feige on the Avengers Movie

In a recent interview by IGN Movies, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked a lot of his thoughts on the 2011 live action Avengers movie. Feige says,

"Our instincts are definitely leading us towards some specific directions for it. It will be a challenge. But I think what we've done in the past, and particularly my experience on the X-Men films where we balanced, you know, X-Men 2 had half a dozen villains and more than a half a dozen heroes. And Avengers won't have that many characters in it,"

"I think that it's safe to assume that the world will be populated by characters that the fans of the comics will recognize beyond the solo movies that have come out, but at the same time I want to be very, very cautious of overdoing it and very, very careful not to just cram in. I don't want it to be a movie where every five minutes a character walks by and people smile at the cameo. I really want it to be an ensemble adventure that stands on its own."

So there will be more characters than the ones with their own feature movie. Like Ant-Man, and Wasp. I wouldn't want to watch 2 hours of the origin of the Wasp but I wouldn't mind having her appear in the Avengers. Good choice by Marvel.
