Captain America!!!

So I've been neglecting this blog for a while. Sorry about that. But now we have some concept Captain America costume pictures!

From what we know, Chris Evans will play Captain America in the movie which will be produced by Joe Johnston.

I kinda like the design of the costume, but if they took off the suspenders and the silly helmet, he would look EPIC!!!

Captain America: The First Avenger is set to be released July 22, 2011.

New Movie Posters

Just some teaser posters of the 4 Avenger movies Marvel has planned for us.

What's new:
It’s a “safe bet” that Steve Roger’s sidekick Bucky is going to show up in The First Avenger: Captain America.

Scarlett Johansson's character in Iron Man 2 has “two sides,” entering the picture as an assistant to Tony Stark, but later revealed as Black Widow. Johnansson is signed up for multiple films.

Marvel is planning on announcing another new movie for 2012 within the next few months. (Ant-Man, Nick Fury Movie, Iron Man 3, Hulk 2...just my guesses)

Marvel Movies Get New Release Dates

Marvel Studios just announced some new release dates for their movies. Probably since they seem to be running behind schedule. But here are the new dates:

Iron Man 2: Unchanged with May 7, 2010

Captain America: Moved from May 6, 2011 to July 22, 2011

Thor: Moved from July 16, 2010 to June 17, 2011

The Avengers: Moved from July 15, 2011 to May 4, 2012

They are also planning on releasing Spider-Man 4 on May 6, 2011. Many many movies for 2011.

Marvel Super Hero Squad

A new Marvel animated series is coming to Cartoon Network. Marvel Super Hero Squad will debuts in late 2009 with 26 episodes. From what I know it will feature the heroes: Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Silver Surfer, Hulk, Thor, and Falcon.

Description from Marvel:
"Shouting "Hero Up!" as they rush into battle, the Squad must keep Dr. Doom's allies from gathering pieces of the Infinity Sword. Otherwise, Doom will use the Sword to rule the universe! Luckily, the City is filled with Marvel Super Hero guest-stars to help out in a pinch. These brave heroes totally deliver the action—but with plenty of humor on the side."

The cartoon is kinda like an extension to Marvel's popular Super Hero Squad toys. So this cartoon is basically a very long and potentially entertaining toy commercial. But there will be many talented voice actors so I expect it to be a fun watch for little kiddies and a few of us big kiddies.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Video Game Trailer

Premiering at the New York Comic Con this year was this neat trailer for the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. It looks like it's going to be heroes against heroes for this one. Iron Man on one side, Captain America on another. It also seems to feature some kind of "fusion" system where the heroes can combine their powers for some pretty combos. The game plans on releasing Dec 31st, 2009.

Captain America has Writers

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been chosen to write Marvel Studios' The First Avenger: Captain America. Their previous works include both of the Chronicles of Narnia movies so there shouldn't be too much to worry about.

The First Avenger: Captain America will be directed by Joe Johnston and produced by Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige. It's planned release is May 6, 2011.

Captain America has a Director

Joe Johnston has been signed by Marvel Studios to direct The First Avenger: Captain America. Johnston has directed only a few movies. Most notably Jumanji, Jurassic Park 3, and Hidalgo.

The First Avenger: Captain America plans to be released in theaters May 6th, 2011.

Captain America Sighting in the Hulk!

It was previously stated that Captain America was going to appear in the movie, but then we later heard that the scene was cut. But the people from FilmSchoolRejects got their hands on the deleted scenes from the upcoming The Incredible Hulk DVD and they went through it frame by frame to find any sign of Captain America. This picture is what they got. (click on the picture for a larger image)

Though it doesn't look very obvious, it does appear to look like Captain America. How he got there, no one knows but being frozen in ice IS the reason why he will be able to appear in modern times with the Avengers even though his movie will take place during WWII.

But I remember that the Hulk was supposed to talk to Captain America in this scene. And the Captain was supposed to convince the Hulk to not commit suicide. But it doesn't look like that Captain is doing much talking in this picture. We'll have to wait the the DVD is released in October 21st to see for ourselves.

Captain America Movie Synopsis

Production Weekly has provided a synopsis for the Captain America movie. Said to be taking place during World War II.

“Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the “Super-Soldier Serum” and bombarded by “vita-rays.” Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers.”

The First Avenger: Captain America plans on being released May 6th, 2011. No actor or director has been confirmed to take part in this movie. I guess that Marvel Studios isn't focusing on this movie just yet.

Schwarzenegger and Marvel Movie Deal

No, Arnold isn't going to be in the next Marvel movie. You can breathe. Actually Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios are supporting California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to give Hollywood studios tax breaks for making their movies within the state. This would mean that instead of putting millions of movie making dollars into the pockets of foreign governments, all of it will go to California. Favreau says that Marvel is willing to film Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers all in Hollywood. That's would be about $600 million spent in California.

That's nice an all but I really don't want to see palm trees, and Rodeo Drive in every Marvel movie. It loses it's epic feel. How is Thor supposed to be a god if he's surrounded my surfer babes and beach volleyball? What made the Incredible Hulk so cool is that it was filmed in multiple locations around the world. I hope Marvel knows what it's doing.

Derek Luke Doesn't Know What He's Talking About

In the last post, I mentioned that actor Derek Luke mentioned that Will Smith was approached to play Captain America. Turned out that he didn't have his beans in order. Marvel sources reported that they have never approached Will Smith about the role. Good.

Will Smith Is Captain America?

The only thing was have to go on is that the actor Derek Luke said this in a recent MTV interview:

“I heard they offered Will Smith Captain America,” ... “just shows you how times have changed.”

So, yeah. That's it. I like Will Smith, but having him as the blonde haired Captain America just doesn't work for me. It's kinda like having Morgan Freeman as Wolverine. Not so good.

Captain America vs. Spiderman 4

It appears that Sony is thinking about releasing Spiderman 4 early May 2011. Captain America is planning on a May 6, 2011 release. So there is a conflict. When asked Maisel replied,

"we always have a lot of options now that we control green light and our destiny with these films. Obviously we can't respond to hypotheticals and what we would do with various either competitive moves or partner moves, like Sony with Spider-Man. So at this point, I'd just have to say once a move like that happens, we'll obviously let our response be made publicly but it wouldn't be constructive to respond to a hypothetical."

So he means that if Spiderman 4 choses to release in May 2010, Marvel Studios and Sony will just work it out.

Maybe they should just combine Spiderman and Captain America into a super movie.

Is This Guy a Good Captain America?

Mike O’Hearn or “Titan” on NBC’s American Gladiators, has mentioned that he is being considered for Lionsgate’s upcoming Conan movie. But if that doesn't work out, he has a casting session with Marvel Studios for the role of Captain America. He's done some small acting gigs but with Marvel using prominent actors as main protagonists, I'm not sure if this guy can be a convincing captain, even with his nice bone structure. Here's a fan video where he appears as Superman. What do you guys think?

Where the Heck is that Captain America Video?

In a previous post I talked about how Captain America makes an appearence in The Incredible Hulk, but the scene ended up being cut. That's sad, but the director mentioned that the cut scene will be posted on the internet. "At some point this week, we will make it available on the internet." That was 2 weeks ago! Where is that video? I was looking forward to seeing what actor ended up portraying that Capt. Dang it. I quess that I'll have to wait a few months until the DVD is released. If they're not posting the scene, I'll just post this one from the first Marvel Avengers cartoon movie. It shows the Hulk beating that crap out of our favorite heroes and the Thor looking...like Bad A$$ Thor.

Captain America's Super Serum?

It’s been a slow news weekend as far as Marvel movie news. Now that the Hulk hype has died down, the next two Marvel Studios movies are Punisher: War Zone (Dec. 5, 2008)and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May 1, 2009). As far as I know, the characters in these movies are completely separate franchises and won’t have any connection to the Avenger Initiative or the Avengers movie.

Though I don’t expect any Iron Man cameos, but there may be some little Easter eggs lying around in the background of these movies; kind of like Captain America’s Shield in Iron Man. This claim is totally based on what I saw in the trailer for Punisher: War Zone so it’s just speculation. If it’s not true, please don’t hurt me.

Above is a screen shot from the Incredible Hulk featuring the blue super-soldier serum(the stuff that made Captain America). Below that are some similar blue canisters in a case from the Punisher: War Zone trailer. Are they the same? Is it just a coincidence? Is Marvel just reusing its props?

Wait, Who Plays Captain America in the Hulk?

If Marvel still hasn't officially casted Captain America for The First Avenger movie, then who plays Captain America in the scene from the Hulk? We know that the scene where the Hulk meets Captain America has been cut from the final edit, but who portrayed him. Or was he just a figure hidden in the shadows of a cave? If we see a different actor in The Incredible Hulk than in The First Avenger, then that ruins continuity. Just a thought.

Leo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt for Captain America

Just a rumor going around, but Marvel might have their sights set on Leo or Brad to play the role of the Nazi fighting superhero Captain America. No offers have been made yet. They probably want to have a script and a director picked out before they approach anyone. It seems like Marvel really wants big names and good actors in their movies. Which is fine by me, but once filming begins of star packed movie, The Avengers, who will be the star?
